About Botox

Botox injections are the most well-known injectable in a category referred to as “neuromodulators,” which also includes similar products made with botulinum toxin like Dysport. In fact, Botox and other botulinum toxins are the most popular cosmetic procedure performed each year.
Botox works by temporarily disrupting nerve signals to the muscles of the injection site, which means that patients can no longer make extreme facial expressions that cause dynamic wrinkles. These are the facial wrinkles that form when you squint, frown, or smile, such as crow’s feet, glabellar lines, frown lines, or horizontal forehead lines. With modern injection techniques, however, you can still freely express yourself and avoid the “frozen” look that many new patients imagine with botulinum toxin injections.
A modern approach to Botox injections also includes using them to prevent early signs of aging. By weakening muscle movements, Botox treatment can prevent fine lines and wrinkles from developing. Combined with a personalized and holistic treatment plan, preventive Botox can be very effective.
What Can BOTOX Treat?
Botox injections have been used medically for decades to treat a variety of medical conditions such as overactive bladder, cervical dystonia, lower limb spasticity, and urinary incontinence. Numerous clinical trials have shown Botox to be safe and effective. Some of the medical treatments we perform using Botox include treatment for excessive sweating, teeth grinding, chronic migraine, and more. Botox injections for cosmetic treatment are typically used for:
- Vertical lines between the eyebrows and on the bridge of the nose

- Lower facial muscles such as the masseter muscle (to lessen the squareness of thick jaw muscles), wrinkles around the mouth, and turning down at the corners of the mouth.

Many patients can benefit from Botox, assuming that they do not have specific medical conditions such as bleeding disorders, certain nerve disorders, or a history of allergic reactions. Before you receive injections, your health history will be reviewed to ensure that the product is safe for you. Your concerns will also be evaluated to make sure that Botox is your most effective option. For example, some wrinkles are caused by volume loss rather than repetitive motion, meaning that other injectables are more suitable. Many patients are drawn to Botox injections because they want to avoid cosmetic surgery or scars. It is not limited by skin type and can easily be administered in a 30-minute appointment.
What to Expect

You will receive a detailed list of aftercare steps to ensure the best results. This also includes symptoms that should alert you to our staff, including flu-like symptoms, trouble swallowing, drooping eyelids, blurred vision, and more. Complications are exceedingly rare when your Botox injections are administered by a highly-trained, top-quality injector. More common side effects are minor redness, irritation, and itchiness at the injection site.
Botox injections produce full results within two weeks. A follow-up appointment is recommended at that time to evaluate your results. Botox injections should be repeated every 3-4 months to maintain results.
